Description	:	Deaths SHANNON — Leon "Cowboy" Shannon, 80, of rural Hiawatha died September 21, 1987, at his home. He was born April 7, 1907 at Hamlin, the son of Ray and Winnie Chamberlin Shannon. Mr. Shannon was a lifelong Brown County resident working as a farmer/stockman in the Hiawatha area. He was an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Shannon was a 1925 graduate of Powhattan High School. He was a life member of the Brown County Historical Society, a Life and Endowment member of the National Rifle Association, and attended the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha. He married Jessie Brockhoff in 1930... Read More	Deaths SHANNON — Leon "Cowboy" Shannon, 80, of rural Hiawatha died September 21, 1987, at his home. He was born April 7, 1907 at Hamlin, the son of Ray and Winnie Chamberlin Shannon. Mr. Shannon was a lifelong Brown County resident working as a farmer/stockman in the Hiawatha area. He was an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Shannon was a 1925 graduate of Powhattan High School. He was a life member of the Brown County Historical Society, a Life and Endowment member of the National Rifle Association, and attended the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha. He married Jessie Brockhoff in 1930 in Hiawatha. He later married Ester Gass on February 12, 1971, at Zion United Methodist Church in Robinson. She survives at the home. Other survivors include three sons, Leon Shannon, Jr., Hawthorne, Calif., Don FcLland, Prescot, Ark., Steven Shannon, Kerrville, Texas; two daughters, Gail Shannon and Jill Shannon of the home; a brother, Dale Shannon, Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Marguerite Glass of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and Eldon Shannon, who died in 1959. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 24, at the Casselman-Meek Funeral Home, Hiawatha, with The Reverends Harold Wolf and Bill Hemmen, Jr., officiating.
