Robert was born on November 6, 1926 in Council Bluffs to the late Dean and Hattie Adkins. He was the oldest of five children. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He was a faithful... Read More	Robert Dean Adkins, age 91, was received into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 13, 2018. Robert was born on November 6, 1926 in Council Bluffs to the late Dean and Hattie Adkins. He was the oldest of five children. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. Robert was joined in marriage to Betty Jean Howe on June 2, 1948, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs. Over the course of the next 20 years they were blessed with seven children. He was a faithful servant of God, thoughtfully and selflessly ministering to hundreds throughout the years as an elder, father-figure and friend. Many will treasure the memory of receiving Holy Communion from his gentle, loving hands. He was blessed with the gift of a strong faith at a young age and was an unwavering beacon of God’s love and faithfulness. Born into generations of farmers, Robert worked the land and tended his crops throughout his life as well. In order to support his growing family, for thirty years he also worked at Swift’s packing house in South Omaha and Glenwood. His strong work ethic, quiet humility, kindness and generosity knew no bounds. To know him was to admire, respect and love him. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his bride and the love of his life for 70 years, Betty; brothers, Richard and Leroy. He is survived by his children, Robert Jr. (Linda), Kenneth (Diane), Nancy Kemp (Dan), Martin (Carol), Janice Jones (Charles), Dean (Kris), Daniel (Michele) and sisters, Dorothy Levenhagen (Donald) and Carol McKinley. The bright light of his legacy also lives on in the lives of the 20 grandchildren
