Mr. Douglas was president of Douglas Construction Co., Inc., and a partner in Bettis Asphalt and Construction Co., Royal Contractors Inc., Interior Contractors Inc., and Dougdale Properties. He also was a partner in Concrete Placement Inc. at Kansas City, Kan. He worked for Procter and Gamble at Kansas City and Chicago after graduation from college. He and his father founded Douglas Construction Co. at Topeka in 1965 and after his father died, he and his wife founded a new corporation, Douglas Construction Co., Inc. He was born April 24, 1937, in Topeka, the son of Merlin M. and Bernice L. Stach Douglas. He attended Topeka Lutheran School, Boswell Junior High School and was graduated from Topeka High School in 1955. He was graduated from Kansas State University in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Mr. Douglas was a member of the board of directors of Kansas Associated Contractors. He was treasurer of Associated General Contractors Builders chapter from 1976 to 1977 and from 1974 to 1976 was president of Northeast Kansas Associated general Contractors Builders Chapter. He was appointed to the Governor's Committee on State Building Codes in 1974. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he was a Bible class teacher, sang in the choir, and served on the board of trustees and board of elders. He served on the boards of directors for Sheltered Living for Adults from 1974 to 1975 and Youth For Christ from 1967 to 1968. Mr. Douglas also was a member of the Rotary Club of Topeka, was assistant director of the Topeka Regional Science Fair in 1967 and 1968, president from 1969 to 1971 of the science fair and had been a member of the fair's board of directors. He was a member of Kansas Engineering Society and was named Young Engineer of the Year in 1971. He also was a member of Shawnee and Perry Yacht clubs, and a trustee of Kansas Builders Health and Welfare Fund. He was a member of the boards of directors of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce and Topeka Club in 1976. He was married to Janice J. Jaquith in June 1956 in Topeka. She survives. A daughter, Dorieann Andrea Douglas, died in 1966. Survivors include a son, Robert S. Douglas, Topeka; his mother, Mrs. Bernice Douglas, Topeka; and a sister, Mrs. Helen Swenson, Los Angeles. Private graveside services in Mount Hope Cemetery will be followed by memorial services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Lutheran School Foundation, 701 Roosevelt, 66606, Faith Lutheran Church Music Fund, 1716 Gage, 66604, or Young Women's Christian Association Building Campaign, 225 W. 12th, 66612.
