After a whirlwind courtship, he married Patricia Thomas in September of 1950 and they had three children; Roger Mike, Mary Pat and Nancy Renee. Their marriage ended in 1971, and Roger married Leona Jacobsen in 1972. Together they operated Andersen Distributing for both Omaha World Herald and the Council Bluffs Nonpareil for over 45 years.
