ROSE GALVIN, WIDOW OF EARLY-DAY MAYOR, SUCCUMBS Death came to Mrs. Rose Galvin, 85, Monday night at a Centralia hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Galvin was a member of one of Centralia's best known pioneer families. She was born June 28, at DuBois, Pa., and came to Centralia with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Slack, in 1889. She was married in June, 1890, to John Galvin and her home has been in Centralia since that time. Both Mr. and Mrs. Galvin were active in the civic and social life of Centralia form many years. Mr. Galvin, who died in 1923, served as mayor of the city for two separate terms. He was active in real estate and other enterprises. Mrs. Galvin was the oldest member of the First Baptist church. She was also a member of Centralia Chapter No. 14, Order of Eastern Star, the Thursday Thimble club and the Ladies of the Round Table. During her active years she was a leader in social and club affairs of the city. Her home in recent years was at the Monaghan apartments. She is survived by two sons, George Jany and Lawrence; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Poundstone, all of Centralia; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Travis and Mrs. Ann Virges, both of Tacoma and Mrs. Gertrude Menard, Santa Monica, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist church. Dr. Ambrose Bailey will officiate and interment will be in Mountain View under the direction of the Newell-hoerling mortuary. Pall bearers will be Claude Warren, L.J. Pettett, W.A. Kiser, John Benedict, George Williams and A.D. Monoghan."
