Burial at Sumner Cemetery, south of Atchison. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com. Mrs. Vessar was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Atchison County, Kan., the daughter of James Frank and Martha Vessar Hundley. She was a member of American Legion Post No. 6. Ruthann enjoyed shopping, playing cards, watching birds and hosting company. She loved cooking and spending time with her family. Ruthann married Claude Gilbert "Gib" Vessar on May 21, 1938, in Atchison, Kan. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her son, Terry Vessar, in 1982, four sisters, two brothers and her parents. Survivors include her sons, Lawrence Vessar of Effingham, Rodger Vessar and his wife, Patty, of Atchison, Ronald Vessar and his wife, Clara, of Nortonville, and Robert Vessar and his wife, Danna, of Cummings; her daughters, Joyce Crossland and her husband, Les, of Atchison, Carol Cannon and her husband, Jack, of Cummings, Martha Card and her husband, Aaron, of Horton, Susan Nieman and her husband, Dave, of Atchison, and Tammy Brown and her husband, Mike, of Cummings; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice Brown, Atchison.
