He was born in Lee county, Iowa, June 27, 1847. He was married in Hamilton county, Iowa, to Eliza Layton, January 25, 1868. The first year of their married life was spent near Hook's Point, after which they moved onto a farm near Yankton, Dakota, where, five happy years were passed. Read More	Stratford Courier February 1, 1912 Obituary McKinney John Wesley McKinney of Stratford died at the Methodist hospital at Des Moines, Iowa, January 25, 1912, at the age of 64 years. He was born in Lee county, Iowa, June 27, 1847. He was married in Hamilton county, Iowa, to Eliza Layton, January 25, 1868. The first year of their married life was spent near Hook's Point, after which they moved onto a farm near Yankton, Dakota, where, five happy years were passed. They then returned to Iowa and settled on a farm east of Stratford, and afterward moved to town, where his wife died in 1897. In the fall of 1899 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Celia Sterner. From this union was born two sons, the first one died February 1, 1901, at the age of four weeks. One son, Rudolph McKinney, four sisters, and a host of friends are left to mourn his departure. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the residence and from the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. H. Albertson. After the funeral sermon the remains were taken to the Oakwood cemetery, where they were laid to rest to await the summons of the last day. Peaceful be thy silent slumber.
