Marshall was born September 1, 1834, and died August 21 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna M. Lawrence, in Carrollton, with whom she lived. Sarah J. Roudebush was married August 26, 1852, to Eli Marshall, and to them were born two sons, Jesse and Levi Marshall, and a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence. There are six grandchildren living. She obeyed the gospel in her girlhood days at Mt. Olivet Church of Christ, in which she held membership until death. She was a daughter of Jesse and Huldah Roudebush. Her Roudebush ancestors came from Holland and settled at New Amsterdam, now New York City, in 1650, and they moved in 1666 to near the Pennsylvania line, and from this colony of Roudebushes has come all the Roudebushes of the United State. Her obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, August 27, 1920. Mrs. Sarah Jane Marshall, widow of the late Eli Marshall, died Saturday at 11 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James N. Lawrence, on North Lisbon Street. burial was made at Mt. Olivet, Monday, the funeral service being conducted by Rev. Messrs. Sims of Augusta and Moody of Carrollton. The deceased was born in Washington township, September 1, 1834. Her father, Jesse Roudebush, descended from one of a family of three brothers who emigrated from Holland to New York (then New Amsterdam) in 1650. In 1666 her ancestor left New york and came to York County, Pennsylvania, where her father was born. Her father came to Carroll County in 1821. Her mother, Hilda Ray, was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and was of Scotch descent. The deceased was married to Eli Marshall, August 26, 1852. After her husband's death in 1883 she made her home with her daughter. Mrs. Marshall was the last of a family of 10 children. In infancy she united with Mt. Olivet Christian Church and retained her membership in that church until her death. Surviving are two sons, Rev. Levi Marshall of Greencastle, Indiana, and Jesse Marshall of Carrollton, and one daughter, Anna M., wife of James N. Lawrence of Carrollton. Six grandchildren also survive.
