Plaskett a popular young lady who resided near King City, became the bride of Arthur E. Coy of Salinas. The ceremony was performed at the residence of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Plaskett, 224 Winham street, in the presence of only a few relatives of the happy pair. The Rev. George McCormick of the United Presbyterian church officiated. The bridesmaid was Miss E E. Plaskett, a cousin of the bride, and the groom was attended by his brother, Harry Coy of San Ardo. Arthur was a well known young man and had been employed in the grocery store of John Souza for quite some time. After the ceremony the young couple were escorted to the Southern Pacific train depot, where they took the 1:45 train for the southen part of Monterey county, where they passed a weeks honeymoon with relatives. On their return they resided in a cozy home on Maple street that Mr. Coy had furnished for his bride. Together Sadie and Arthur had three children: • Arthur Elmer Coy, Jr aka "Elmer Coy" -Born June 9, 1912 in Salinas, CA. - died June 2, 1975 in Santa Maria, CA • Dorwin(e) Leroy Coy (twin) - born Jan 19, 1914 in Salinas, CA. - died June 8, 1996 in Santa Maria, CA. • Norman Leonidas Coy (twin) - born Jan 19, 1914 in Salinas, CA. - died Feb 27, 1984 in Arroyo Grande, CA. After their three boys were born in Salinas, the family would go on to live in Sisquoc for a short period, where Arthur worked in grocery store. They then moved to Santa Maria where Arthur worked at Haslam's (dry goods & groceries during that time). Their home being at 313 N Main St. Arthur & Sadie opened their own grocery store, "Coy's Grocery", on South Broadway. Once the depression hit, times were very difficult for everyone in the Santa Maria Valley. Sadie & Arthur were kind people and with so many in the valley struggling during the depression they never turned away a hungry family needing groceries put "on account", which Sadie & Arthur ultimately paid. Unfortunately, they lost the business as their customers weren't able to pay for the groceries they had put on credit. Arthur returned to Salinas, falling ill with Kidney disease. He passed away at the age of 45. Sadie Plaskett Coy continued working in a Defense Plant in Portland with her sister, Nellie "Nell" Plaskett, they lived together there. Sadie had been in Portland because there were no other jobs in the Santa Maria Valley. Sadie was eventually able to return to Santa Maria, where she found other jobs including managing the Grayson Hotel. She then moved back to King City, residing there approximately 10 years. She died of a sudden heart attack in the early hours at her home on January 29, 1957. Funeral services were held at the Ree C. Grim Funeral chapel, Thursday at 11am on Jan 30, 1957, followed by Interment at the Garden of Memories in Salinas. The Rev. Everett L. Epperly of the King City Community Baptist church officiated at the King City service. ————————— About Arthur Elmer Coy Sr: Arthur Elmer Coy was also from a California Pioneer family that trace back to the 1600's in The Holy Roman Empire (what is now Germany). His Family line immigrated to the American colonies in 1761, and fought in every war since the American Revolution and Civil War.
