Description	:	Arthur Elmer Coy was born in Salinas, California to Hattie (Cotter) and Darwin Coy. Arthur served as a member of the California Guard, Calvary Troop C for six years. In 1913, he was a Corporal and was selected for officers training school, which was at the Instructional school in Santa Cruz. Read More	Arthur Elmer Coy was born in Salinas, California to Hattie (Cotter) and Darwin Coy. Arthur served as a member of the California Guard, Calvary Troop C for six years. In 1913, he was a Corporal and was selected for officers training school, which was at the Instructional school in Santa Cruz. He was an active member of his community and remained close with his siblings. In 1911, Arthur married Sarah Melissa "Sadie" Plaskett. They remained in the Salinas area for 6 years, during that time Sadie gave birth to Arthur Elmer "Elmer" Coy, Jr (1912) and twins, Dorwin Leroy Coy and Norman Leonidas Coy born in 1914. Arthur played on the Salinas Baseball team and in 1916 they were the league champions. That same year, Arthur was instilled as an officer of the Santa Lucia Parlor No. 97 Native Sons of the Golden West (NSGW). The young family then moved to Sisquoc, California for a short time where Arthur worked in the general store there. Wife, Sadie, had a brother and sister (Plaskett family) living in Sisquoc at the time. By 1920, they moved to Santa Maria, California, where they would soon open Coy's Grocery. During their marriage from 1911 through the roaring 1920s to early 1930s, Arthur and Sadie were a popular young couple, frequently hosting parties. They belonged to several lodges and fraternal organizations. Arthur being a charter member of the B.P.O. Elks in Santa Maria. He held officer positions in the Montezuma Lodge No. 83, Fraternal Brotherhood, as well as the American Legion in Santa Maria, and the 8 and 40's Club. Arthur became ill with Kidney disease, around 1935 he returned to Salinas. He was hospitalized in 1936 for the severe illness, from which he passed away from a few short months later. ............................................ OBITUARY Arthur Coy, 45, Succumbs Funeral Services Will Be Held Monday Mr. Arthur Coy, 45, 313 North Main Street, Salinas, died Friday evening in a local hospital after a short illness. A native of Salinas, Mr. Coy had made his home in Santa Maria for the last , 19 years, returning here a year ago to make his home. He was a charter member of Santa Maria lodge, B. P. O. Elks. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Sadie Coy of Salinas; three sons, Mr. Arthur Elmer Coy, Jr., Mr. Darwin Leroy Coy and Mr. Norman Leonidas Coy, all of Santa Maria; three brothers, Mr. Harry D. Coy of San Jose, Mr. Harvey Coy of Watsonville and Mr. Lester Coy of Redwood City, and three sisters, Mrs. Edna Johnson of Cayton, Mrs. Velma Gallagher of San Ardo and Mrs. Essie Diekmann of Santa Maria. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o'clock Monday morning from the Muller mortuary, under auspices of Salinas lodge No. 614, B. P. O. Elks. Interment will follow in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
