Read More	Obituary The Hooper Sentinel January 3, 1929 Mrs. Christian Kroeger Passed Away Dec. 27th Again the Grim Reaper has passed through the ranks of the old residents and garnered another of our splendid pioneer women unto himself. Mrs. Christian Kroeger passed away last Thursday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chris Schulenberg, after a long illness which was complicated and rendered more serious by her age. Sophia Roggensack was born Sept. 8, 1850, in Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, and came to America with the parents at the age of 6 years. The family first settled at Chicago where they remained for three years when they came to Nebraska locating near West Point. Later her parents took a homestead one mile north of Hooper, the farm on which Harry Kroeger resides. On October 1, 1869, she was united in marriage to Christian Kroeger, who preceded her in death about seventeen years ago. To this union eleven children were born, six of whom survive. About twenty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Kroeger retired from active farm life, moving to Hooper and making their home in the east part of town. It was here that the husband and father died in January, 1911. His widow continued to make her home in Hooper until about four years ago when she went to live with her children until her death at her daughter's home on December 27, 1928, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 19 days. Mrs. Kroeger was one of the finest types of the pioneer days, a good mother, a true friend, and a kind neighbor. There are many left to mourn the passing of such a woman. The surviving children are Herman of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Chris (Anna) Schulenberg, Mrs. Geo. F. (Linda) Rabe, Mrs. Carl (Eliese) Schulenberg, Fred and Harry, all of Hooper. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Lena Koehler of Uehling. The many friends of these bereaved ones extend to them the deepest sympathy in their time of sorrow. The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon from the Chris Schulenberg home at one o'clock and from the St. Johns Lutheran church at 1:30, Rev. Theo. Norden, pastor of St. Johns church, conducted the services which were very largely attended.
