WATT; DIED IN WASHINGTON Funeral services were held from the Advent Christian Church here Monday afternoon for Mrs. Viola M. Watt, 78, who died Friday at the home of her son, Raymond in Washington D. C. The Rev. W. S. Bowden was in charge of the final rites and burial was made in the Villisca Cemetery. Pall bearers were her five sons, Lawrence, Lester, Raymond, Orville, and Everett and a son-in-law, Harold Peters. Music was furnished by J. H. Todd, accompanied at the piano by Miss Marjorie Bowden. On its arrival from Washington D. C. the body was taken to the Wolfe Funeral Home to await the final rites. Viola M. Barton, oldest daughter of Samuel and Ellen Barton, was born in Knox County, Illinois, near Galesburg, December 3, 1861. When a small girl, she came with the family to Taylor county in Iowa in a covered wagon, before the railroad came this far west and settled near Old Hold. On this trip they crossed the Mississippi River on a hand pulled ferry at New Boston. In their new home, this pioneer family endured many hardships, but of the eight children who grew to manhood and womanhood there was no break until a few years ago when death claimed two of the sisters. On February 28, 1884, she was married to Rowland W. Watt at Bedford, Iowa and they went to faming near Guss, where they spent the next 17 years except for one year in South Dakota where they lived in a sod home. In 1901 the family moved to Corning and five years later came to Villisca, where they have since resided. Thirteen children were born in their home and grew to maturity, but the youngest of the family, Floyd, died in 1921, and the husband and father died in 1933. Mrs. Watt is survived by seven daughters and five sons, 35 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Her children are Mrs. P. O. Silvara, Orangog, Missouri, Mrs. Walter Young, Prescott, Iowa, Mrs. A. W. Hadley, Milo, Iowa, Mrs. Harvey Swank, Seaton, Illinois, Mrs. J. F. Prather, Mrs. C. A. Penwell, and Mrs. H. L. Peters of Villisca, Lawrence Watt, Storm Lake, Iowa, Lester Grinnell, Iowa, Raymond, Washington, D. C., Orville, Alexandria, Virginia, Everett, Detroit, Michigan; all of whom were here for the funeral. She leaves also one sister, Mrs. Johnson Hyder of Nevada, Missouri; four brothers, Curt Barton, Gravity, Iowa, Frank Barton, White Sulphur Springs, Montana, Charles Barton and Guy Barton, Stockton, Missouri.
