Obit from The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, May, 2008 Virginia Ann Schleufer, the daughter of Harry I. and Lora E. (Harris) Shaw, was born on August 25, 1919 near Nelson Nebraska. She passed away on April 26, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Home, Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 8 months, and 2 days. Virginia started school at the "Brown" country school near Nelson and continued in the Nelson Schools graduating with the class of 1938 from Nelson High School. After graduating, she worked at the ASC farm office and Jim House's Drug Store in Nelson until her marriage. On April 9, 1943, she married Elmer H.R. Schleufer at Fort Collins, Colorado. He was in the Army, and they lived at his duty stations, among which were Tulsa, Oklahoma and Wichita Falls, Texas until he was discharged. They returned to a farm near Nora, Nebraska and began farming. Children born to this union were Irvin and Barbara. Elmer died suddenly with a brain tumor on March 27, 1948. On December 15, 1948, she married Lester H.E. Schleufer (Elmer's brother). To this union was born a daughter, Shirley. They continued to live on and operate the farm until their retirement. They moved to Superior, Nebraska in the fall of 1974. Lester passed away on May 5, 200l. They enjoyed vacations with their family, traveling to many states. After they retired, they purchased a travel trailer and enjoyed 12 winters at the VIP Park at LaFeria, Texas. They enjoyed camping and fishing at Lovewell Lake in Kansas during the summers. They attended many Shaw family reunions at locations in Wisconsin, Colorado, Iowa, and Nebraska. Virginia was baptized on April 20, 1930 By Pastor W.B. Zimmerman at the Methodist Church in Nelson, Nebraska. She was confirmed on July 30, 1944 by Pastor Elmer A. Nelson at the American Lutheran Church in Rantoul, lllinois. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Superior, Nebraska where she was active in the choir and Women's Circle. She enjoyed sewing as a member of the Brodstone Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Her hobbies were gardening, raising flowers, and embroidery. She is survived by her son Irvin Schleufer and wife Murlene of Nelson, Nebraska; daughter Barbara Stutzman and husband Roy of Nora, Nebraska; daughter Shirley Peters and husband Dale of Hastings, Nebraska; brother Harry Shaw and wife Muriel ofElkorn, Wisconsin; sister Bertha Mae Schultz and husband Ed of Superior, Nebraska; sister-in-law Geraldine Witt and husband Walter of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters-in-Iaw, Vivian Shaw of Orange, California; and Norma Hastriter of Nampa, Idaho. Grandchildren include: Dana Schleufer and wife Julie of Beatrice, Nebraska, Daniel Schleufer of Ruskin, Nebraska, Lisa Baalman and husband Andy of Salina, Kansas, Cori Bennett and husband Tony of McPherson, Kansas, Tim Stutzman of Nelson, Nebraska, Laura Folkerts and husband Mike of Albert, Kansas, Vicky Wagner and husband Jeromi of Superior, Nebraska, Michael Peters and wife Lisa of Hastings, Nebraska. Great-grandchildren include: Crystal Jordening, Katie Schleufer, Jonathon Schleufer, Christopher Dirks, and fiancee Rebecca Richardson, Jessica Dirks, James Nelson, Amanda Bennett, Kaytlyn Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Megan Bennett, Matt Stice, Megan Stice, Maci Stutzman, Tanner Stutzman, Kyleene Folkerts, Alexis Folkerts, Keegan Wagner, Christian Wagner, Hailey Peters, and Courtney Peters. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral Services were at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Salem Lutheran Church, Superior, NE. Interment following at the Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Barbara Bauer officiating. Williams Funeral Home, Superior, Nebraska was in charge of the arrangements.
