Description	:	OBIT: Walter Hopkins Duval, 82 year old financier, rancher, and politician, died Saturday afternoon at the Saticoy Country Club. Mr. Duval had been under a physician's care for some time, it was reported. A native of Saticoy, born on the family ranch, Dec. 28, 1874, Mr. Duval was educated in Ventura County schools and became active in ranching activities at an early age. Mr. Duval had been under a physician's care for some time, it was reported. A native of Saticoy, born on the family ranch, Dec. 28, 1874, Mr. Duval was educated in Ventura County schools and became active in ranching activities at an early age. An active Republican, Mr. Duval was elected to the state assembly in 1923 and served until 1929 when he was elected to the state senate from which he retired in 1935. While in the legislature, he was active in the revenue and taxation program and was chairman of the senate banking committee. He was co-author of a bill that placed public utilities on the county assessment rolls. He was a partner in the Ventura County Mortgage Co. and Farmers Realty and Investment Co. with R. W. Bates. In 1927 he was one of the founders of the Union National Bank in Ventura and served as its president until 1951 when it was taken over by Security-First National Bank. He served on the advisory board of the latter until his death. Mr. Duval owned extensive ranch properly in the Saticoy area and resided at 19 McKevett Heights in Santa Paula. He is survived by his widow Jennie; a daughter, Mrs. Ord Toomey of Saticoy; a sister, Mrs. Anna Willis of Ventura; and a brother, Edwin of Saticoy. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Memory Chapel of the H. B. Skillin Mortuary, Santa Paula, with the Rev. Harvey Buck of St. Paul's Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be in Santa Paula Cemetery. Ventura County Star-Free Press, October 7, 1957
