Boone News Republican - Saturday, September 13, 1947 - Funeral services for were held Sept 5, at the Primitive church, Rev. E.D Rapp officiating. The committee in charge of flowers included Mr and Mrs C.T. Brattebo,. Mr. and Mrs. Ward Platter, Mr. and Mrs. H.T. Leavens and Mr. and Ms R.C. Miller. Two duets were sung by Mrs Clara Williams and Mrs Ethel Rapp. "Life is Like a Mountain Railroad" and "Beyond the Sunset." Pallbearers were Melvin Wood, Frank Robinson, Leonard Robinson, Joe Hemmer, Donald Green and Gerald Thornly, all nephews of Mr. Morgan. Burial was in the Grand Junction cemetery. Walter Morgan, son of Franz Sigle and Margaret McLean Morgan, was born in Boone county July 25, 1883 and died Sept 2, 1947 at the age of 84 years, two months and seven days. He was married Sept 2, 1906 at Grand Junction to Laura Wood. There were three daughters born to this union. He was an engineer on the Chicago and North Western Railroad. As a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen, he served an active part, being the financial secretary for about 17 years. He was a member of the Primitive Methodist church of Boone since 1930 and much of this time was spent as an officer of the church and in active participation of a all affairs. He was preceded in death by a daughter, who died in infancy; one brother, his father and two grandchildren. Those left to mourn his departure are his wife Laura; two daughters: Erma, wife of the Rev Bert Durham of Sebetha, Kansas and Thelma, wife of George Morris of Boone; foster son, Thomas Mayo of Boone; his mother, Margaret Morgan, of Boone; two sisters Mrs Grace Atwood of Anamosa and Mrs. Anna Wood Boone; two brothers, William and Oren both of Boone, and 13 grandchildren.
