Memorials may be made to Risen Son Christian Village in his memory. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel, Council Bluffs. Ward Julius Strohbehn was born May 27, 1924, in Treynor, the son of Herman and Lillie (Trede) Strohbehn. He graduated from Treynor High School in 1942. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Gold Star. He married Patricia Jean McClelland on November 28, 1947, in Council Bluffs. He earned his teaching degree from UNO and taught Economics at Thomas Jefferson High School for five years and was the Head Wrestling Coach. In the mid 1950's, he moved his family to Denver, Colorado, where he was the regional underwriting manager for Hawkeye Security Insurance Company for 25 years, retiring in 1981 and moved back to Council Bluffs in 1981. Patricia preceded him in death on July 18, 2013. He was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion Post #2 and the D.A.V. Surviving are one daughter, Carol (Rick) Owen of Council Bluffs; one granddaughter, Rebecca (Troy) Andersen; one grandson, Robert Owen; three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley and Tyler Phillips; one sister, Joanne Miller of Fremont, NE; one brother, Dale (Gretchen) Strohbehn of Glendale, AZ; one sister-in-law, Emily Strohbehn of Milledgeville, GA, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Douglas Strohbehn, one sister-in-law, Mary Strohbehn and one brother-in-law, Gordon Miller. The Daily Nonpareil, Mar 18, 2016
