Disney's overcoat containing a lunch and a mortgage installment receipt book, was found by a county bridge gang this morning. The coat was hanging on the east rail of the brickyard bridge over the south channel in the Kaw river at that point. Disney, according to Mrs. Disney, had left for his work this morning, but had not arrived at the yard office, as employees called his home to find out where he was. Disney has disappeared before. He has been ill for some time and suffered a nervous breakdown. During the summer months he disappeared on three different occasions, but each time was found by his family a few hours later, it was reported. Heard Splash in River** The bridge gang had been working on the island below the brickyard bridge, clearing away brush from the piers. During the morning, some of the men declared they had heard a splash in the river as tho a heavy object had struck the surface and one man declared that a few moments later an object looking like a galvanized pail was seen floating downstream. Disney wore a light colored hat when he left home this morning. Another member of the bridge gang told county officers that he had passed a man near the highest part of the bridge over the railroad tracks, this morning, while driving a car to town. The man, he stated, was wearing a coat which he believed was similar to the one found on the bridge. County officers are making a search along the river banks. It may be that Disney left the coat as a blind to cover a disappearance, officers feel, and that he may show up again when his mind clears. No effort will be made to drag the river at this time, it was said, until it is felt that Disney actually leaped into the water, altho a watch will be kept along the banks for any possible trace of the missing man. Topeka State Journal, Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1928, page 2: Disney's Body Is Found Chief Yard Clerk of R.I. Jumped Off Bridge Dec. 3 The body of Webb Disney, age 38, who jumped off the brick yard bridge, December 3, was recovered Tuesday afternoon by James Foster, an employee of the River Sand company, who found the body on a sand bar in the Kaw river. Foster was working on a boat in the river when he glanced down stream, saw the body, and notified Sheriff Oscar Carlson and Dr. H.L. Clark, county coroner. Disney had been with the Rock Island railroad for twenty years and was the chief yard clerk. He is survived by his widow and one son, Junior, of the home address, 1214 Byron street. Private funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Peebler's chapel. Burial in Mt. Hope cemetery. The Rev. David H. Shields, pastor of the Central Park Christian church, will be in charge of services. ********************** His wife, Myrtle, was living with their son, Webb Jr., in Burbank, California, according to the 1930 census. Her sister, Linnie T. Norman was living with them. Webb Jr. died 12 Aug 1964 in Mexico. His effects were in the possession of his wife, Alicia Gonzales. He was buried in Mexico.
