He was ill about a week with pneumonia, contracted at the track meet in San Jose a few weeks ago. Wilbur was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sharpe of Hanna Street, aged 18 years. (Note: Wilbur was a son of Robert Brent Sharpe and Anna (Burson) Sharpe, rather than of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sharpe. Charles was Wilbur’s brother.) He was prominent in the Boy Scouts, being a first class Scout, and was also a member of the Epworth League and a student of the eighth grade of the grammar school. During his leisure hours, he clerked for Goldwin Brown, and was an industrious youth. His untimely death is mourned by all, as he gave promise of becoming a citizen of sterling worth. He lived a clean life, and his example was worthy of emulation by other boys in the community. The family have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Richards and Rev. Lux of Gilroy, assisted by Rev. Needham of San Jose. The funeral was delayed until Friday awaiting the arrival of the older brother, Harry E. Sharpe of Kansas City. Many beautiful floral emblems marked the last resting place in the Masons & Odd Fellows Cemetery. The services were exceedingly impressive. Members of the Boy Scouts acted as pallbearers.
