Mr. Sweetman spent the greater part of his time beside the radio listening to the war news until just recently when his ill health forbid. He now "just sits and waits for mail" from his four grandsons and one son, all members of the army air corps, who have done "pretty well' for themselves. He hears regularly from his son, Sgt. Walter Sweetman with the air corps in England, and the grandsons from "all over" write often too. The grandsons randing from a lieutenant to a private are Lt. Fred Sweetman, jr., of the ferry command; S. Sgt. Fred Ellerbeck in England; T. Sgt. Merle Ellerbeck in Africa, Sgt. Herbert Galle at Boca Raton, Fla. Another grandson, Charles Sweetman, is a CAP flight instructor at Girder Field in Arkansas. "I'm just as proud of Wayne Sweetman, my other grandson, who was just given a medical discharge from the marine corps, due to an illness he contracted while in the service," he said.. They also are parents of two daughters, Mrs. Steve Nugent of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Fred Ellerbeck of Beebeetown; four other sons, Fred of St. Louis, George, Ed and William of Council Bluffs; 11 other grandchildren and one great grandchild..
