Read More	Crofton Journal Page 6 1928 Crofton Woman Dies Wednesday Mrs. Conradina Kruse,83, Passes Away With Flu And Pneumonia Mrs. Conradina Kruse,83, a resident of the Crofton community for 46 years, passed away at her home Wednesday morning at 4:30 following an illness of ten days due to flu and pneumonia. Mrs. Kruse enjoyed an active life with the exception of the last few months during which she was confined to a wheel chair because of a paralytic stroke on March 28,1928. Mrs. Kruse,formerly Miss Conradina Schleuter, was born in Nunemberg, Germany, on July 29, 1845. Here she grew to womanhood, and in 1870 was married in Germany. In 1880, Mr. and Mrs. Kruse and five children sailed from Bremen, Germany on the steamer, "Weser" for America, landing in New York City. From there they went to South Dakota where they lived one year. In 1881, the family came to Knox county, making the journey from Yankton to their homestead 8 miles northwest of Crofton with oxen. The first house on the homestead was built of stone. The stone house was later replaced by a larger frame home for many years. In 1911, mr. and Mrs. Kruse moved to Crofton, where he died on May 31, 1916. At the time of her death, Mrs. Kruse owned 600 acres of good farm land, which had been acquired by the couple from the unbroken praire which they came to. Their land is characterized by large groves and good buildings. When 14 years old, Mrs. Kruse became a member of the Angelico Lutheran church in Germany, and after she came to Knox county, she became affiliated with the Salem Angelico Lutheran church northwest of Crofton. She was a leader in the church work as well as in home life of her community, as she was a willing hostess to whomever needed a good meal. Mrs. Kruse is survived by six sons and two daughters. The sons are Dietirck, Paul, Gustav,Christian, all of Crofton; Charles of Lake View, S.D.; and Henry of Valentine. The daughters are Mrs. Jennie McCain and Mrs. Marie Hinman of Crofton. She also left one sister in Germany, and 22 grandchildren. Altho no funeral arrangements were announced this morning, pending the arriaval of sons, it is known that she had picked out the hymn she wished sung at her funeral ceremony.
