Description	:	William Eugene Ballard, affectionately known as "Red", passed away suddenly January 7, 2005. Mr. Ballard was born in Goodlett, TX, April 8, 1921 to James and Dellar Ballard. He moved to California at a young age and graduated from Lindsay High School in 1940. He was employed with N.M. Ball and Sons of Berkeley, CA from 1941 to 1942 hauling tractors, rollers and power shovels on construction projects. He also worked for Kenroyce Contruction Company and Hawaiian Contractors doing the type of work. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and attained the rank of Tech Sgt.... Read More	William Eugene Ballard, affectionately known as "Red", passed away suddenly January 7, 2005. Mr. Ballard was born in Goodlett, TX, April 8, 1921 to James and Dellar Ballard. He moved to California at a young age and graduated from Lindsay High School in 1940. He was employed with N.M. Ball and Sons of Berkeley, CA from 1941 to 1942 hauling tractors, rollers and power shovels on construction projects. He also worked for Kenroyce Contruction Company and Hawaiian Contractors doing the type of work. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and attained the rank of Tech Sgt. In 1943, he was promoted to 2nd Lt. where he served as a Tank and Infantry Commander. As a 1st Lt. he was a Reconnaissance Officer and later at the rank of Captain, he served as a Provost Marshall. In 1951, he was recalled to serve during the Korean War. Mr. Ballard was a warehouse manager for the Shugart Acoustical Company for many years before becoming the sales manager for DiMarco Acoustical Company. Mr. Ballard was an avid card player, loved gardening, cooking and eating. He will be sorely missed by all his family. Mr. Ballard is survived by his sons: David L. Ballard of Santa Ana, CA; Daniel R. Ballard of Santa Clarita, CA; Kurt A. Ballard of Ham Lake, Minnesota. He is also survived by a brother, James H. Ballard, Jr. of Carpenteria, CA; and sisters, Majorie Golden of Clear Lake Oaks, CA and Vera Ward of San Francisco, CA. He is survived by grandchildren: Stacey Payette, Scott, Suzanne, Samuel and Sarah Ballard. He is survived by his great grandchildren: Beth, Michael, Bryan and Ashley. He is survived by his first wife, Mary Jean Ballard of Columbus, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian M. Ballard, who passed away August 8, 1989 and his companion, Luella Bailey. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005, 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary with Mr. Dennis Russell of Foster Road Church of Christ officiating. Cremation was requested with private interment in the Santa Maria Cemetery.
