Description	:	Her Majesty's Prison at Stafford was originally constructed and opened in 1793. It was substantially enlarged by a building development programme of works in the 19th century. The prison burial ground was located next to the prison chapel (built in 1852 and demolished in 1952). The Anatomy Act of 1st Aug 1832 directed that the bodies of all executed criminals belonged to the Crown and were now to be buried in the prison grounds in unmarked graves, often several to a grave to save space.
