Mr. Burghart was employed by Santa Fe Railway 34 years before he retired as an electrician in 1975. Previously he was employed by Fritton's Grocery. He was born Aug. 27, 1911 at Pfeifer, Russia, the son of Peter and Anna Eakes Burghart. He moved to the United States with his family shortly after birth. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the fourth degree of Knights of Columbus, Santa Fe Old-Timers and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees. He was an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2608, and an honorary member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was married to Barbara C. Schoenfeldt Sept. 5, 1932 in Topeka. She survives. A daughter, Barbara Ann Laird, died Feb. 14, 1971. Other survivors include a son, Alexander G. Burghart Jr., Topeka; a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Haefner, Topeka; three brothers, Joe G. Burkhart, Paul A. Burkhart and John Burghart, all of Topeka; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Reeder, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs. Cecilia Stadler, Topeka; and four grandchildren. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Burghart will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brennan Funeral Home where rosaries will be recited by Daughters of Isabella at 6 p.m., by the parish at 6:30 p.m., by the Nocturnal Adoration Society at 7 p.m., by the third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m., and by Ladies of Columbus at 8 p.m. Topeka Daily Capital, 10/29/1984
