Description	:	WATMORE, ALICE CATHERINE — Mrs. William Watmore Sr., a Fillmore county pioneer, passed away at the Fillmore County hospital, August 18, 1966, aged 82 years and 3 days. She had been hospitalized about six weeks. Alice Catherine Stephenson was born August 15, 1884, at Thomasboro, Ill., the daughter of John and Ellen Babb Stephenson. Read More	WATMORE, ALICE CATHERINE — Mrs. William Watmore Sr., a Fillmore county pioneer, passed away at the Fillmore County hospital, August 18, 1966, aged 82 years and 3 days. She had been hospitalized about six weeks. Alice Catherine Stephenson was born August 15, 1884, at Thomasboro, Ill., the daughter of John and Ellen Babb Stephenson. She moved to Nebraska with her parents at the age of five and form that time lived the rest of her life in this community. The family settled in Chelsea township. She was married to William Watmore January 3, 1906. To this union were born six children, four sons and two daughters. There are four surviving children, Howard S. and William R., Margaret (Mrs. James Matejka) and Mildred (Mrs. Harold Maier), also one sister, Mrs. Helen M. Shickley; and ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Watmore was preceded in death by her husband William and two sons, Willard, who died at the age of 12, and Gene, who lost his life on Iwo Jima in World War II. The Watmore family moved onto the Stephenson farm in the spring of 1931. Mr. and Mrs. Watmore retired and moved into Geneva in1949. Mr. Watmore died January 14, 1961. Mrs. Watmore was the last surviving charter member of the Geneva Eastern Star chapter. She was active in the chapter many years. She was also a charter member of the Chelsea Woman’s club. She was also active in the Geneva Congregational church groups. Funeral services were conducted from the Kritner-Farmer funeral home in Geneva at 2 p. m. Saturday, August 20, Rev. Delano Spitzer officiated. Carol Jean Turek sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “In the Garden.” Mrs. Willard Foster was accompanist. Pallbearers were John Bures, John Burt, Walter Ebbeka, John R. Freeman, Donald Larson and David Robare. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. (Source: The Nebraska Signal, 25 August 1966)
