Her obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, January 10, 1902. For one brief moment the gates of heaven were ajar and we caught glimpses of the radiant glory as our beloved friend and neighbor passed quietly "though the gates," January 7, 1902. The last year of her life was full of sickness and suffering but when patiently enduring intense pain her face was all smiles to her friends. Though unable to perform the duties of the household she was always concerned about the comfort and happiness of those about her. Many lives have been brightened and made better by her kindly greeting as they passed her home. Today there is a vacant chair at the window. But we rejoice to know that the noble spirit which had been hampered in its movements by the frailties of the flesh is free. Her life was full of praise and song making melody to the Lord. Her sweet voice speaking words of encouragement, will be heard never more on this side of the river. A noble friend has left us but the fragrance of her devoted life lingers to bless the world. We still hear her words of faith, "They are coming for me." Then she turned lake a weary child seeking rest and fell asleep, as peacefully as the light of a summer's evening fades into the twilight. She was a faithful and devoted wife, an affectionate mother and a kind neighbor and friend. Although detained at home she continued a faithful Christian. Her silent, unceasing ministry of those left to mourn her absence. Many gazed upon her peaceful face, then she was tenderly laid to rest in the beautiful city of silence. Grace A. Johnson.
