Her parents were renting the Van Oosten farm one mile east of the Pella Church when she was borm. She received elementary education at Lancaster County Public Schools, District 20, "Wooden Shoe" located at 176th street and Firth road in rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. She graduated in 1922 from Panama High School, in Panama, Lancaster County, Nebraska. She wanted to be an elementary school teacher so she completed teacher training (normal school) at Adams High School in Adams, Gage county, Nebraska. She began her teaching carrier at Lancaster County, District 20 country school in 1922 and continued until she married in 1924. Two of her brothers and several nieces and nephews were attending the school at the time she was teacher. Johanna (Anne)and Ted Kroese were married on February 11, 1924 at the home of her parents in Pella community, rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. They were married in a double wedding with her sister Frona Fischer and Arthur DeYong. They started married life on a farm owned by the Kroese family one half mile north of Adams, Gage County, Nebraska. Ted was diagnosed with a heart condition suffered for many years with heart problems. He died on September 26, 1937 at the age of 38. Anne continued to operate the farm after her Ted died. She employed hired men to do the farm field work while she and the children did the dairy work. The family took over all of the farming operations when her oldest son Ted graduated from elementary school. Anne and John operated the farm while Ted was in the United States Marine Corp. When he returned from the service and married, he took over the farming operations. She moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. She worked as a department store clerk in Lincoln for many years until retirement. She then moved back to Adams, Gage County, Nebraska and lived there in retirement. She loved to visit with friends, play cards and scrabble. They were lifelong members of the Pella Reformed Church, Pella, Lancaster County,Nebraska where she was active in womens organizations and played the piano at various church functions.
