Arnold Fischer and Hazel Louise Vandewege were married on 2 February 1934 in the Pella Reformed Church, rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. They met at the Hickman, Lancaster County, Nebraska town carnival when Hazel was 14 years old. Arnold was interested in getting to know Hazel better but her mother blocked the way for several years. Arnold did however prevail. They started married life on a rented 320 acre farm located on the Firth road two miles east of the Otoe County line. A few years later they relocated to a farm they rented which was located at the NE corner of Pella road and 96th street. They lived here until 1947 when they relocated to the Fischer farm at 176th street and Firth road (NE corner), across the road east from the Fischer home place. They purchased this farm in 1952 after the death of his mother Diena Vanderbeek Fischer. They enjoyed fishing and made annual family visits to the lakes in Minnesota as well as frequent visits in their camper to popular Nebraska lakes. They purchased a loom and made colorful rugs from strips of fabric gleaned from old clothing and sold them at craft fairs in eastern Nebraska. They lived in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska in retirement. They were members of the Pella Reformed Church in the Adams, Nebraska area.
