He was baptized in June, 1909 in the Pella Reformed Church,rural Adams, Nebraska. Carl William Fischer and Janet Lorraine Vanderbeek were married on June 15, 1932 by the Justice of the Peace in Lincoln, Nebraska. They started married life on a GJH Fischer farm located at Firth road and 176th (NE corner). They started farming with four horses and two mules. he traded in the four horses to purchase their first tractor, a John Deere Model "B" in 1938. They purchased the Fischer home place in 1952 after the death of his mother Diena Vanderbeek Fischer. They lived there the remainder of their lives. They were members of the Pella Reformed Church. Carl served as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He loved to sing and sang in the Men's Chorus and men's quartets for many years.
