Mathers of Benton, died Friday night at 9 p.m. Uncle Ben has not been stout for a long time and has been going on the downward road and yet there was not many people who thought the end of time for him was so near at hand. He will be missed in Benton. He had alot of friends. May we all look and now see that a kind friend and a good citizen has passed away, never to return but long may he be remembered. Died at his home in Benton, March 10 B F Mathers, aged 66 years. Mr. Mathers was born in Clear Creek, Indiana, January 28, 1839. He served in the Union army; came to Butler county and Benton township in 1871. He was always held in highest esteem, an honorable man, a good friend and neighbor. He was for several years Postmaster of Benton and had resigned the position several weeks prior to his death. He leaves a wife and ten children: Belle Slusser of Ringwood, Oklahoma; Rella Jordon of Eden, Oklahoma; Mrs. David Cron and J. E. Mathers of El Dorado; Abbie Lee of Carmen, Oklahoma; Mrs. Anna Ohmart; Pearl D’Ogny; Ada, Blanche, and Ben of Benton; also a brother Hugh Mathers of Carmen, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Christian church. The funeral will be held tomorrow March 12 at 2 p.m. at the Christian church in Benton. Rev E S Chamberlain of Sycamore Springs will conduct the services.
