Description	:	EARLY STANTON SETTLER DIES -- Bernard Keenan, a resident of Plymouth county for fifty-eight years, died at the Sacred Hear Hospital shortly before midnight August 6, following an illness of several weeks due to a complication of diseases. He was nearly 75 years old. Bernard was born near Garyowen, Iowa, November 2_, 1856, where he grew up. When a youth he accompanied his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Patrick Keenan, to Le Mars in 1873. They were among the first settlers of Stanton township. Mr. Keenan was one of a family of thirteen children, nine of whom have preceded him in death. He leaves one brother, Michael Keenan, and two sisters, Mrs. James Hughes and Mrs. Frank Dunn. Bernard Keenan was married to Marion Blackwell, who died four years ago. His daughter, Mrs. Peter Gainor, died two years ago and two sons preceded him in death, William when a lad of 16 and Charles in infancy. Besides his brother and sisters he leaves a large number of nephews and nieces. Mr. Keenan was widely known especially among the older residents. Mr. Keenan followed the avocation of farming all his life until the past few years when he retired and made his home in Le Mars. The funeral was held Monday morning at St. James church in this city. Rev. Father L.J. Cooper officiating, and the interment was made in the St. Joseph Church cemetery in Lincoln township where other members of the family are buried.
