As near as we have been able to learn Mr. Keenan had driven to Neptune for repairs for a mower and as he failed to return home by noon, Mrs. Keenan sent her son to search for him. When found, he had driven his car to the side of the road and stopped it but was overcome so suddenly he was unable to shut off the engine, which was running when he was discovered. Mr. Keenan has been a resident of this locality for many years and leaves to mourn his loss his wife and several children, also several brothers and sisters to whom his sudden demise was a great shock. August 14, 1924, page 1 ----------------------- OBITUARY OF JOHN KEENAN -- John Keenan was a native son of Iowa, and was born on a farm in Jackson county, Iowa, on October 6, 1865. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Keenan of Stanton township. The family came to Plymouth county in 1873, when John Keenan was eight years old and he lived the rest of his life in this vicinity. He grew to manhood on the home place attending the country school and assisting his father with the work on the farm and lived there until 1898 when he began to farm on his own account on the quarter section he owned in Union township. He established his home there and was married in January 1901 to Miss Daisy Heindel. To this union five children were born, who are: Rose, Andrew, Charles, William and Mary Agnes. His death is mourned by his wife and children and his brothers and sisters, who are: Bernard and Michael, living in the country, and James of this city; Mrs. Jas. Hughes of Stanton twp., Mrs. T. Gainor, Lincoln twp., Mrs. J.J. Crowley of LeMars, and Mrs. Frank Dunn of Stanton township. Mr. Keenan was a substantial farmer and was a successful grain grower and stock raiser, and by hard work and integrity had built up a fine home and provided generously for his family. {Goes on for many sentences with glowing remarks.} Mr. Keenan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church in Lincoln township and active in parish work.
