Crowley of LeMars died last night on the road between here and Merrill on account of heart failure, caused by fright when a car in which she was riding ran down an embankment and crashed into a telephone pole. Mrs. Crowley had been visiting in Sioux City on Wednesday and was on her way back in an automobile with her brothers, James and Mike Keenan. Between Merrill and Hinton the car in which they were riding skidded off the road and slammed into a telephone pole in the ditch. No one seemed to be hurt. Mrs. Crowley was assisted out of the car and Andrew Kunkel who came along offered to take the occupants to LeMars. At the same time, W. H. Zimmerman came along and as he lives near Mrs. Crowley’s residence he suggested that he could take her more conveniently. Although Mrs. Crowley had some difficulty in speaking and breathing, she apparently was not hurt. She had no scratches or bruises and went into Mr. Zimmerman’s car. However after they had passed through Merrill, she slumped down into her seat and died. The deceased was a daughter of the pioneer settlers, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Keenan. She was born in Stanton twp., on Jan. 23, 1879. On Nov. 26, 1903, she was married to John C. Crowley, who preceded her in death about three years ago. Three of her children died in infancy. Three brothers survive her, Barney, Mike and James Keenan, all living here, and three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Hughes, Mrs. Tom Gaynor and Mrs. Frank Dunn. Three brothers and sisters as well as her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held on Saturday forenoon from St. James Catholic church. Rev. J. L. Cooper will officiate and the body will be interred at the Catholic cemetery in Lincoln township.
