He lived in Jackson county for ___ years before coming to this county." ---------------------------- FUNERAL OF PATRICK KEENAN -- The Largest Similar Gathering in Plymouth County. The brief announcement in THE GLOBE on Wednesday morning of the death of Patrick Keenan in a runaway on Tuesday evening was a severe shock to his many old time friends and neighbors who had difficulty in believing that a mistake had not been made. Mr. Keenan had been in town on Tuesday and had started home at about 5 o'clock and the last person to see him alive was Tim Bergen who saw him drive by on a brisk trot, standing up in the wagon as was his custom when the weather was chilly. Barney Keenan was apprised that something was wrong when he saw his father's team dash into the yard at home with the front part of the wagon. The team ran into a hay stack and stopped and he, hasting to his own buggy and summoning his brother, James, and nephew, Simon Hughes, they started back. They had gone less than a half mile when they found the lifeless body of their father. Mr. and Mrs. James Hughes were returning from town and reached the scene about ten minutes after. Every means possible were used to resuscitate him but without success. A careful examination of the body revealed that death resulted from concussion of the brain. While the head had received numerous bruises and the body and limbs were also bruised considerably, the most serious contusion was that on the side of the head. The evidence of the runaway was clearly present along the road where the lumber was scattered along and where the box of the wagon was hurled to one side of the road, though it was turned end for end. The funeral was held on Thursday at the Lincoln township Catholic church, Rev. Father B. O'Riley conducting the services. The procession left the house at 9:30 and reached the church five miles away at 11 o'clock, about 130 teams being in the procession.
