Bertha Margaret Tennigkeit was born September 5, 1897, in Gammendorf, Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Jurgen and Pauline (Pries) Tennigkeit. She came to the United States with her family in 1903, and settled on a farm in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, near Minden. She received her education the rural schools. She later worked as a telephone operator in Minden. She married Frederick Wilhelm Hundt on October 9, 1924, in Council Bluffs. Together they farmed near Oakland, until they retired and moved to Council Bluffs, where they lived for 20 years. They then resided with their daughter in Underwood, until they became residents of the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland. Frederick preceded her in death on December 21, 1980. Surviving are one daughter, Eleanor Hundt of Underwood; one brother, Henry Tennigkeit of Rapid City, SD; two sisters, Kathryn Johnson and Hazel (Oliver) Bedtker, both of Council Bluffs; one sister-in-law, Helen Tennigkeit of Council Bluffs; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Anna Flemming, Emma Krueger, Agnes Rounds and Clara Fitzgerald and three brothers, Hans, William and George Tennigkeit.
