It confirms both recorded names this man lived by. First, from birth is John McNair Wilfong. Last, from later maturity, John McNair Wine. Bessie had documents naming her grandfather, John Elias Wilfong and her uncle, Sylvester McClure Wilfong. John McNair is the only part of his name her father never changed. All of her work was done after her father passed away. This was where she found the first error on the death certificate. The headstone had already been engraved with 1869, for birth year. She had relied on the death certificate, when the engraving was done. Her John McNair Wilfong birth record showed this 1868 year error to her. Bessie is the daughter who traveled, by train, to bring her father back to De Haven, Frederick County, Virginia, for burial. She was the eldest (age 37) living offspring of John McNair Wine, at the time of his death. This started her interest in her genealogy. Her two younger brothers didn't seem as interested. Her brother, "Newt", did enjoy travel and did venture to the western coast, too. Often he traveled with her. Bessie's contacts did give him opportunities to meet some half-siblings. The last years of her life were in a nursing home in Berkeley Springs, Morgan County, West Virginia where she passed.
