Description	:	Charles Newton Reed was born June 3, 1870 in Union West Virginia the son of Henderson and Catherine Daugherty Reed and died May 17, 1959, at the age of 88 years 11 months and 14 days. He came to Kansas in 1885, locating in Carbondale and vicinity. The family then moved to a farm five miles northeast of Overbrook where he grew to manhood. Read More	Charles Newton Reed was born June 3, 1870 in Union West Virginia the son of Henderson and Catherine Daugherty Reed and died May 17, 1959, at the age of 88 years 11 months and 14 days. He came to Kansas in 1885, locating in Carbondale and vicinity. The family then moved to a farm five miles northeast of Overbrook where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Barbara Blocher June 21, 1893, at Lawrence. They lived five years on a farm 5 1/2 miles southwest of Overbrook, them moved to what became their home, 2 miles east and 1 mile north of Overbrook, for nearly 60 years. To this union were born three children, Fred H Reed and Mable L Price, both of Overbrook and Elsie M Perryman R 1 Topeka. He leaves one half-brother, Earl of Denver; three half sisters, Zella Miller of Topeka, Mae Baker and Grace Branson, both of Overbrook, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was a farmer and stockman all his life, a breeder of purebred Brown Swiss Cattle and a member of their organization. He served on the board of directors of his school district many years, and was a member of Hurricane Grange and Farmers Union. His wife preceded him in death Jan 2, 1958. Funeral services were at the Overbrook methodist Church, May 20, conducted by Rev Earl O Harbour of Topeka. He was assisted by Rev Alfred Miller of Overbrook. Music was furnished by Max Freisen, singing "In the Garden" and "Old Rugged Cross". Mrs Don Hoyt accompanied at the organ.Casket bearers were the nephews of the deceased, George Reed, Albert Reed, Arthur Skaggs, Ralph Maichel, Hyluard Maichel and Clarence Maichel. Interment was in the Overbrook cemetery. Overbrook Citizen-May 28, 1959 Mr & Mrs Charley Reed were injured Monday afternoon when their car collided with that of Lester Moore, Ottawa. The complete extent of their injuries was not immediately determined. Mrs Reed was reported in serious condition at the hospital. Jan 2, 1958
