The family then moved to a farm five miles northeast of Overbrook where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Miss Laura Pearl Kinney, February 20, 1901 and immediately settled on their present farm six miles northwest of Overbrook, in Ridgeway community, where he has resided for over fifty years. To this union were born three sons, George, Albert, and Marlin. "Art" as he was known by his fellowmen was interested in people and the betterment of his community, serving on the board of directors of his School District for a number of years. He was a successful farmer and stockman, a breeder of pure-bred cattle and lover of fine horses. He enjoyed his friends and neighbors never failing an opportunity to lend them a helping hand when needed in the life of the community. He was baptised in the Methodist church when young in years and later joined the United Brethren Church. Mr and Mrs Reed celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1951. He passed away November 15, 1954 after a short illness at the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 19 days. Those who mourn his passing are his wife, Mrs Laura Reed of the home and the three sons, George also of the farm, Albert and Marlin Reed of Osage City; nine grandchildren; three brothers Charley Reed of Overbrook, Clyde of Los Angeles, California; and Earl of Denver, Colorado; also four sisters, Mrs Laura Hines of Burns, Mrs Zella Miller, Topeka, Mrs May Baker and Mrs Grace Branson of Overbrook; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held November 17, at the Overbrook Methodist Church with Rev Arthur Coole of Osage City assisted by Rev Gail Garst of Overbrook. Interment was in the Ridgeway cemetery.
