Burr in this community will be pained to learn of his death yesterday morning at 8:30 o'clock in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ralph Moore, in Topeka. Mr. Burr had been sick for more than a year but had been confined to his bed only six weeks. Rufus H. Burr was born in Ashtabula County, Ohio, in 1841. More than fifty years ago Mr. Burr was married to Miss Leonora Platt in Pennsylvania. In 1873 the Burrs moved to Kansas and settled in Washington County. Later they moved to Emporia where they lived for thirty years. The past twelve years Mr. Burr had lived in Topeka. Mr. Burr is survived by an only child, Mrs. Ralph Moore, of Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Lydia Cone and a brother, John S. Burr, both of whom live in Ohio. Mr. Burr enlisted in the 50th Ohio Infantry when he was 21 and served three years and a half. When the war ended he was a captain in the 177th Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. Ralph Moore in Topeka, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Dr. A. S. Embree and Dr. A. G. Gregory. Interment will be made in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. A fine, brave, strong man was Captain Burr. He played a splendid part in the world in his prime, and he leaves those who knew him best to mourn his loss most deeply. He belonged to the rugged generation that has all but passed--the men who saved America and American ideals, that it in its turn might save the world.
