Roberts, Emporia interment authorized by Ralph F. Moore ****************************************** The Emporia Gazette, 04 Sep 1906, Tuesday MRS. R. H. BURR DEAD Mrs. R. H. Burr died this morning at 9 o’clock at her home, 913 Exchange street, after a four week’s sickness. Her death resulted from an anaemic condition of the blood, brought about probably by a functional disorder of the kidneys. She leaves her husband and her daughter, Miss Gertrude Burr, teacher in the Century school, to mourn her loss. The whole community, which has known the Burrs for twenty years, will unite in sympathy for the bereaved ones. Mrs. Burr was 63 years old and grew to womanhood in Penn Line, Crawford county, Pa., where as Miss Elinor Platt she married R. H. Burr in 1868. She came with her husband to Kansas in 1872 and lived with him in eastern Kansas, moving to Emporia from Osage City in 1886. Since that time she has endeared herself to a wide circle of friends and neighbors, and during recent years has been an active member and active worker in the church of Christ Scientists. No relatives live nearer than Pennsylvania, and those who live there are in feeble health, and will be unable to attend her funeral. It will be held from the home tomorrow at 2:30 o’clock. ******************************************** The Emporia Gazette, 05 Sep 1906, Wednesday MRS. R. H. BURR’S FUNERAL This afternoon at 2:30 the lawn in front of the home of R. H. Burr was filled with the friends and neighbors of the family, to pay their last tribute of respect to Mrs. Burr. Rev. W. A. Parker offered a prayer, a choir composed of Miss Achsah Harris, Mrs. Robert L. Jones, and Messrs. Held and Winn, sang “Lead, Kindly Light.” After a few words of consolation and hope the choir sang and the pall-bearers, Colonel David Taylor, S. Nation, L. A. Lowther, Frank Dale, R. D. Thomas and W. A. White bore the body of their friend away from the home she loved. At the grave Rev. Parker’s short prayer followed “Nearer My God to Thee,” and the mourners went about the streets.
