Born October 5, 1929 in Smithsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Margie M. (Bowman) Dunkin. He and his wife of over 64 years, Betty L. "GENE" SHILLING, 85, of Military Road, Cascade, MD, died Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2015 in the Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD. Born October 5, 1929 in Smithsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Margie M. (Bowman) Dunkin. He and his wife of over 64 years, Betty L. (Rose) Shilling, were married on December 16, 1950 in Hagerstown. They moved to Military Road in 1968. In his early life, Mr. Shilling worked with J. Bob Benchoff in construction. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator at Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove, PA, for many years. Following his retirement, he helped at the Smithsburg Car Wash, which was owned by his daughter and son-in-law during the 1980's. Mr. Shilling enjoyed hunting and watching old movies. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy M. Aughinbaugh of Waynesboro; and one step-sister, Mary M. McCullough of Chambersburg. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Samuel B. Dunkin; his son-in-law, Gary Aughinbaugh, who died on March 8, 2012; two brothers, Lester Shilling and Braden Shilling; and one step-brother, Samuel D. "Buddy" Dunkin. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 2, 2015 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev. Eugene M. Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade, MD. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Tuesday afternoon, in the funeral home.
