Dorothy Truesdale, 86, of Carrollton, formerly of Harlem Springs, died Sunday morning, February 23, 2003, in Carroll Healthcare Center after an extended illness. She was born April 2, 1916, in Carroll County, daughter of the late Bert and Maude (Cassidy) McConnell. She was a member of the Carrollton First Presbyterian Church, the Retired Teachers Assoc. and a life member of the Carroll County Historical Society. Dorothy taught in the elementary school for 30 years at the Harlem Springs School before retiring in 1977. She enjoyed her years as a teacher at Harlem Springs and the memories of her students became her mainstay during tough times. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Ron Smith of Carrollton; daughter-in-law, Ruby Truesdale of Fayetteville, Tennessee; sister, Buehla Farland of Carrollton; six grandchildren, Michael, Craig, Theresa, Rhonda, Lisa and Melynda; and 25 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death on April 16, 1998, by her husband, Jack G. Truesdale, who she married December 24, 1935. A son, Marion Carlise Truesdale, died on February 23, 1993, and a granddaughter, Andrea "Andi" Smith, on January 29, 2001, three sisters, Mildred McConnell, Viola Miller and Mary Favri, and an infant brother are also deceased. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton with Rev. Gary Brose and Dr. Charles Naylor officiating. Burial will fellow in Harlem Springs cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8. The family requests memorials be made in Dorothy's memory to Carroll County Hospice, 1040 Trump Rd., Carrollton, Ohio 44615.
