Edna was born July 1, 1909, in Randall, the daughter of Edward and Lydia Dobbins Bodding. She graduated from Randall High School and attended Kansas State University. She worked for Auburn- Washburn Unified School District as the food service director, retiring in 1973. She volunteered for the Shawnee County Election Board. Edna was a member of Randall United Methodist Church, the World War II Glider Pilots Organization and was a 50-year member of the Shawnee County Home Demonstration Unit. Edna married Harry F. Engel on Jan. 23, 1930 in Burr Oak. He passed away on March 4, 1986. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Carl and Ralph Bodding; a son, Rex A. Engel; a grandson, Scott T. Dexter; and a great-grandson, Dallas J. Dexter. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Dexter and husband, David, Topeka; one granddaughter, Marsha Diggs and husband Mike, Wichita; two grandsons, Jeffrey Dexter, Lawrence and Brett Dexter and wife Leann, Topeka; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Marie B. Powell, Topeka. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Edna will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel after 2 p.m. Tuesday and visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Aldersgate Village, 7220 S.W. Asbury Drive, Topeka 66614.
