Description	:	Mills county friends the past week received notice of the death of Mrs. Nellie Speas, of Ferguson, Iowa, who was formerly a resident of this county. She was shopping in Marshalltown Saturday afternoon when she was suddenly stricken with apoplexy. She was taken to the Deaconess hospital where she died at 4:30 p. m. a little more than an hour after being stricken. She had suffered from high blood pressure for the past eight or ten years but was apparently in her usual health when stricken and remained conscious until after she reached the hospital when she lapsed into a... Read More	Mills county friends the past week received notice of the death of Mrs. Nellie Speas, of Ferguson, Iowa, who was formerly a resident of this county. She was shopping in Marshalltown Saturday afternoon when she was suddenly stricken with apoplexy. She was taken to the Deaconess hospital where she died at 4:30 p. m. a little more than an hour after being stricken. She had suffered from high blood pressure for the past eight or ten years but was apparently in her usual health when stricken and remained conscious until after she reached the hospital when she lapsed into a state of coma and never regained consciousness. Funeral services were held in the Christian church in Ferguson Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F. M. Strange of Hartwick and Rev. Herman Crawford of Ferguson. Mrs. Speas was the daughter of Andrew and Margaret Crouse and was born near Fort Dodge in Webster county Feb. 2. 1883. They moved to Mills county when she was a little girl where she grew to womanhood, living near Henderson. She was married to Oliver B. Speas Jan. 15, 1902, and they moved to Oklahoma where they resided several years when they moved to a farm near Ferguson where she spent her remaining years. She was a member of the Ferguson Christian church and an active worker in all the church organizations and active in every good work in her home community. Surviving her are her husband and six children: Mrs. Arthur Keese, Mrs. Ralph Richardson and Mrs. Glen Kelley, all of Gilman; Rodney. Almeda, and Vernon Speas, at home. A sister, Mrs. Laura Crouse of Fort Dodge, two brothers. Frank Crouse of Ferguson and George Crouse of Gage, Okla., and five grandchildren also survive her. Mrs. Speas also has numerous relatives and friends in this county who learned with sorrow of her passing. -The Malvern Leader, January 17, 1935
