Carl Ernest Geuder passed away at his residence Thursday forenoon, at the age of 49 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was born in Guttenberg, October 24, 1860, and was married February 7, 1888. His departure is mourned by his wife, nine children, his aged mother Mrs. Helena Geuder, and three sisters and two brothers, namely: Mrs. Wm. Beerman, Louis and Henry Geuder, residing in Guttenberg, and Mesdames Louis and John Vander-Hamm of Ireton. Mr. Geuder was a member of the Guttenberg Hardwood Sawmill Co. at the time of his death, and for many years was employed by Jos. Zimmerman as sawyer and also held that position with the firm of Zimmerman & Ives. In former years he was a man of strength and endurance. He was trustworthy and very attentive to his work, upright in his dealing and a kind husband and indulgent father and highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a member of the M. W. A. fraternity. The funeral will take place from his home on Bluff street, Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with services by Rev. J. Janzig. Interment will be in the City cemetery. +++ Guttenberg Press, IA, Friday, December 17, 1909, pg. 1, col. 4 PASSING OF WELL KNOWN RESIDENT Ernest Geuder Succumbs to Death Yesterday After Lingering Illness Ernest Geuder, a highly esteemed resident of this city, died at his home at about 10:30 o'clock yesterday morning after a lingering illness covering a period of two years or more. Although a constant sufferer during that time he was confined to his home only about two weeks. Mr. Geuder has for several years been engaged in the sawmill business and at the time of his death was one of the members of the Guttenberg Sawmill Co., but owing to his illness had been unable to attend to his regular duties at the mill for some time. He is survived by his wife and nine children, to whom the sympathy of the entire community is extended in their hour of sorrow. The funeral will be held from the family residence Sunday afternoon. Carl Ernest Geuder was born in Guttenberg Oct. 24, 1860, and died at his home in this city Thursday, Dec. 16, 1909, aged 49 years, 1 month and 22 days. Deceased grew to manhood here and spent practically all his life in the town of his birth. On February 7, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Seipple, who survives together with their nine children, besides other immediate relatives who are his mother, Mrs. Helena Geuder, and his two brothers and three sisters, viz: Louis, Henry and Mrs. Wm. Beerman, Sr., of Guttenberg and Mesdames Louis and John Vander Hamm of Ireton. For a number of years Mr. Geuder held responsible positions in the Zimmerman & Ives sawmill and later bought an interest in the hardwood sawmill and continued a member of the firm up to the time of his death. Owing to failing health he was obliged to give up active labors some months ago and since then had been more or less confined to his home. Deceased was a member of the M. W. A. in which he carried a $2000 insurance policy. He was a man of true worth and in his death the community has lost one of its best residents. The funeral was held from the residence Sunday afternoon, Rev. Janzig officiating. Interment was made in City cemetery.
