Description	:	ERNEST W. MITCHELL - as born August 20, 1918 in the Prospect Community of Henderson County. He was one of twelve children born to Arbie Elizabeth Harwell and John Walter Mitchell. He passed away Friday, April 9, 2004 at Decatur County General Hospital. He attended rural schools in the Liberty and Prospect area and graduated from Scotts Hill High School in 1938. He was one of twelve children born to Arbie Elizabeth Harwell and John Walter Mitchell. He passed away Friday, April 9, 2004 at Decatur County General Hospital. He attended rural schools in the Liberty and Prospect area and graduated from Scotts Hill High School in 1938. On October 16, 1938 he married R.T. McCollum. Two children were born to this union Johnny Spencer Mitchell and Marilyn Mitchell. R.T. McCollum Mitchell now resides in New Braunfels, Texas. Ernest was employed by the State of Tennessee for twenty years as a wild life officer. He retired from his duties as a wild life officer in 1976. At this time he returned to the family farm where he had lived as a child. In 1966, Ernest married Mary Shannon Peppers. Mary had three daughters Sandra, Linda, and Sheri Peppers. He loved farm life, enjoyed nature, hunting, fishing, and sports. But most of all he enjoyed being surrounded by his family, friends, and helping neighbors in the community. Ernest was a diligent worker in the Liberty United Methodist Church. He inherited from his mother an unbounded love and commitment to this his church. Ernest united by Baptism with the church in 1944. In 1956 he moved his membership to the Hohenwald, TN United Methodist Church where he and his family were living. After retirement he returned to the church of his youth, Liberty United Methodist Church, remaining there until death. His intense belief in the power of our heavenly father gave him comfort and strength as he walked the pathway of life, especially as he struggled in his last years with failing health. He served on the Decatur County School Board for twelve years, and took great pride in the accomplishment of the school system. He felt fortunate to represent the parents and children of his district and county. Attending school events especially basketball games was a passion for Ernest. He supported the Scotts Hill teams by his presence until declining health intervened. Funeral Services were held Sunday, April 11, 2004 at Liberty Methodist Church in Scotts Hill, TN. Interment followed at Liberty Cemetery. Ernest Mitchell is survived by his devoted wife Mary Peppers Mitchell, Sardis, TN. One son Johnny Spencer Mitchell (Shearon) New Braunfels, Texas. One daughter Marilyn Mitchell Le Fevre (Joseph) Kileen, Texas. Four grandsons Jeff Mitchell (Nancy) Farmington, New Mexico, Greg Mitchell (Cho-Nai) Concord, California, Fatrick Le Fevre (Heather) Boston, Mass, and Justin Le Fevre, San Marcos, Texas. Two great-grandchildren Jane Lee and Mason Spencer Mitchell, Concord, California. Three step daughters Sandra Peppers, Memphis, TN, Linda Peppers Hayes, Savannah, TN., and Sheri Cotham (David) Nolensville, TN. Four step granddaughters Katie and Lisa Hayes Savannah, TN., Carla Cotham, Nolensville and Christi Cotham Jackson, TN. One brother Kenneth Mitchell (Aileen) Scotts Hill, TN. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Walt and Arbie Mitchell, sisters Avis Mitchell, and Gladys Pratt, brothers Tom, Harry, Lilburn, Gordon, Brice, Harwell, Clyde and Clifford Mitchell.
