Malvern Leader, April 24, 1969, page 2 Florence Durbin, daughter of Joshua and Almira Carr Durbin, was born May 3, 1883 on the old Durbin homestead south of Emerson and passed away April 22, 1969 in Malvern having reached the age of 86. Her early life was spent in this vicinity where she attended and graduated from the Emerson schools. She later received her degree from the University of Nebraska. She joined the Asbury Methodist Church near Emerson at the age of 14 and later in 1902 she united with the Malvern Methodist Church where she attended throughout her later years. Here, she taught a young people's Sunday school class for 20 years. She was a charter member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service and in 1961 was presented as honorary life membership in this organization. She was a 63 year member of Silver Urn Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and was Past Matron of the Order. She also held membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. In September 4, 1918 she was united in marriage to Dr. J. W. Baer, Malvern Veterinarian, and they immediately moved to their home on north Marion Avenue, where they resided together until his death in 1968. Two children, a daughter, Helen Elizabeth and son, William were born to this union. Mrs. Baer is survived by her children, Dr. and Mrs. Paul T. Walton of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mr. and Mrs. William Baer, 7 grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Cora Hale, who resides at Nishna Cottage. Mrs. Baer will be remembered by her family and friends as a kind and loving woman. Funeral services were held Friday, April 25, at 2 p.m. at Mansfield Funeral Home, the Rev. Clarence Woollard, officiant. Casket bearers were Edel Knight, Charles McClure, Roy D. Mansfield, C. J. Noffsinger, Dr.James R. Beckwith, Charles D. Costello, T. E. Salyers, and Frederick G. Smith. Caring for the floral tributes were Mrs. Noffsinger, Mrs. J. F. Wearin, Jr., and Mrs. Fred Hauger. Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery. Malvern Leader, May 1, 1969, page 7
