Read More	Frank Henry Lang Christmas week brought sadness to the home of one of this communities best known citizens, December 21, when death claimed Frank Lang, aged 76, following an illness of three weeks duration. Mr. Lang underwent a major operation of the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs two weeks ago and was to have returned home on Tuesday when his condition suddenly took a critical turn and his family were called to his bedside. His son was with him constantly until he passed away at about 4 p.m. having full consciousness to the last and able to visit and plan with his loved ones. Frank Henry Lang was born in Mills County, September 19, 1867 on the old Lang farm home south of Emerson. After completing the grade school course, he attended Shenandoah college for two years. March 16, 1892 he was married to Julia Smith of Emerson and they moved to his father’s farm in Nebraska where they established a home and resided four years. In 1897 they returned to Iowa where he lived on a farm south of Emerson for some time later moving to the home north of town where he farmed the past 39 years. Last March, just nine months ago, he and Mrs. Lang celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. In the summer, Mrs. Lang’s health began to fail and they retired from the farm, moving to their present home in town, the home where his mother spent 30 years of her life. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Lang, and two grandchildren, Eugene and Annabelle Lang. Three sisters also survive, Mrs. Barbara Ballain of Emerson, Mrs. Alice Knowles of Long Beach, California, and Mrs. Mary Swaddled of Palmer, Nebraska, and one brother, W. A. Lang of Malvern. Quiet and unassuming by nature, he seldom chose to assume the active responsibilities of his community, although he always maintained a keen interest in the welfare. His honest and upright character and mode of living gained the respect of all who knew him. He was a good friend and a good neighbor to all and was extremely fond of little children. His ever ready smile and congenial and friendly manner will be greatly missed by his many friends. He was a home loving man, and his heart’s interest centered around his home and family. His first and foremost thought was for their comfort and welfare and the beautiful companionship enjoyed by the father and son of this family circle will live on forever in the memory of his loved ones who are left to mourn his passing. Funeral services were held at the methodist Church Friday afternoon, Dr. L. M. Grigsby, D. D. being in charge. Casket bearers were Elmer Bass, A. G. Knosp, Ferdinand Peterson, Harold Hossle, Harry Dunlap, and Henry Schick. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. J. A. Thorson, Mrs. M. W. Taylor, Ray Fields, and Frederick Larson, accompanied by Mrs. R. R. Honeyman, R. R. Honeyman sang a solo accompanied by Mrs. Honeyman. Mrs. H. E. Greenwood, Mrs. Clarence Barnes, and Mrs. V. R. Johnson were in charge of the flowers. Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery, with the Comer funeral home in charge.
