Description	:	Emerson and vicinity was saddened early Tuesday evening to learn of the sudden death of Miss Pearle E. Lang, beauty parlor operator and long time resident. She had not been well for the past few weeks, but was able to be around and at her usual work. She became worse Monday and summoned a doctor and Tuesday was taken to Red Oak for x-rays and then to the hospital. She became worse Monday and summoned a doctor and Tuesday was taken to Red Oak for x-rays and then to the hospital. Preparations were made for a blood transfusion and an operation when she passed away about 7:30 the same evening. Death was due to a perforated ulcer bursting in her stomach and filling her lungs with the fluid. Services were held at the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. L. E. Ripley in charge. Music was furnished by Rey Fields, Bert Smith, Mrs. Avis Taylor, and Mrs. Clara Thorson. Robert Honeyman also sang a solo and Mrs. R. R. Honeyman served as pianist. Pallbearers were John Evans, Harold Cheney, L. V. Hicks, Elmer Bass, Robert Honeyman, and Lee Williams. Those in charge of floral offerings were Mrs. Minnie Whisler, Mrs. Clarence Barnes, Mrs. Bert Smith, Miss Pearl E. McLain, Mrs. R. B. Tubbs, and Miss Louise Artz. Pearl Evelyn Lang, youngest daughter of John and Catherine Lang, was born at the old homestead southwest of Emerson, June 8, 1886 and departed this life from the Murphy Memorial Hospital at Red Oak, October 4, 1938, after an illness of but a few days. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, three brothers, Charles, John, and Ed. She is survived by three sisters, and two brothers, Barbara of Emerson, Mary of Palmer, Nebraska, Alice of San Bernardino, California, Frank of Emerson, and Walter of Malvern. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of trusting and devoted friends. Miss Lang grew to womanhood's estate in this community, having moved to Emerson with her parents at 10 years of age. She graduated from Emerson High School with the class of 1905. At the age of 13 she was united with the Methodist Church of Emerson during the pastorate of Dr. R. E. Shaw. All who have been associated with her in the life of the church will bear testimony of her fidelity and cooperation. She gave of her self and her substance that her church might accomplish its mission in the community and elsewhere in the world. Miss Lang was also a member of the Eastern Star and maintained an active interest in the fellowships of that order. In 1929 she graduated from the Chicago College of Beauty at Long Beach, California and has operated her shop here since that time. Her life was a fine blending of purpose, industry, kindliness, loyalty, and idealism. Few daughters, if any, ever surpassed her in her devotion to her aged mother. A visit in their beautiful home confirmed ones belief in the divine order of family relationships. During the years that she has gone in and out among her friends and townspeople, she has daily exemplified the strength and dignity of womanhood. Her achievements are many as measured by the standards of this world and many as measured by the standards of the unseen world, the highest and most priceless of all being her achievement of character, the only abiding value known to mankind. Burial was made in the Emerson Cemetery. Among those from a distance here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Aistrope and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lamb, Wakefield, Nebraska, Mrs. Elsie Marsh, Mrs. Bessie Carnes, and Mrs. James Carnes, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Griffith, Clarinda; Miss Bess Beeson, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Alva Ballain and family, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Vennard Larson and family, Council Bluffs; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cardiff, Oakland; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Fritz, Mr. and Mrs. J.
