Luense, 56, lifelong resident of the Greeley community and for the past four years a resident of Manchester, passed away late Saturday night at the Delaware County Memorial hospital following a heart attack suffered at his home early Friday morning. Mr. Luense was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and active in its work. He was also a member of Tadmore Lodge No. 225 A.F. and A.M. at Greeley a member of the Chapter Council and Nazareth Commandery No. 33 Knights Templar at Manchester. He also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Joppa at Manchester. He was secretary of the Masonic Lodge at Greeley for many years. Funeral services for Mr. Luense will be held from the Shelly funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the Revs. Robert G. Wendell and Trevor Baskerville officiating. Burial will be made in the family lot at the Grant View cemetery, Greeley. Harlan Wesley Luense, son of John B. Luense and Emma Kuhlman Luense, was born on the parental farm northeast of Greeley. He grew to young manhood there and was graduated from the Greeley high school. He later was graduated from the Gates Business college in Waterloo, after which he returned to farming. He was united in marriage with Edith Lou Baskerville on June 15, 1927, at Manchester. They farmed all of their lives together on the home farm until 1959, when a heart condition forced his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Lou Luense of Manchester, three daughters, Mrs. Gerhardt (Charmion Jean) Van Drie of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Donald (Joann Mary) Ackman of Jesup and Mrs. Robert (Wanda Lou) Wilson of Delhi; 10 grandchildren and his father, John B. Luense of Greeley. Also surviving are one step brother, Burdette Wessell of Colesburg and one step sister, Mrs. Robert Lindsay of Bartlesville, Okla. He was preceded in death by his mother.
