Luense 85, lifelong Greeley community resident passed away Saturday evening at Delaware County Memorial hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services for Mr. Luense were to be held from the Greeley Methodist church at 1:30 P.M. today (Tuesday) with the Rev. Wayne K. Kamm officiating. John Benjamin Luense, son of August Luense and Anna Von Talge Luense, was born Jan. 8 1879, on the parental farm in Elk township, Delaware county, northeast of Greeley. He grew to young manhood on the farm and received his education in the rural schools of Delaware county in the Greeley area. He was united in marriage with Emma C. Kuhlman on Nov. 28, 1901, at Colesburg, Following their marriage, they engaged in farming in the Greeley community. To this union two sons, Elmer R. and Harlan W. were born. They continued farming together until her death on Sept 20, 1921. He was united in marriage with Flora E. Wessel on June 14, 1923, at Winterset. Following their marriage, they continued to farm in the Greeley area until they retired from farming and moved to Greeley. Mrs. Flora Luense passed away on March 11, 1949. Mr. Luense was a lifelong and active member of the Greeley Methodist church. He was a long time member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Greeley. He is survived by one son, Elmer R. Luense of Walterboro, S.C.; one step-son, Burdette E. Wessel of Colesburg; one step daughter, Mrs. Robert E. Lindsay of Bartlesville, Okla.; 4 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Luense of Le Mars and Edward Lindsay of Corvalis, Ore., and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his first and second wives and by one son Harlan W. Luense in 1863 Manchester Press, Manchester, Iowa
